Community Guidelines
Welcome. If you're new to LVAGovLive, jump right in. If you've been around awhile, please greet newcomers and help them feel at home. This listserv is here for all of us, and we want it to be comfortable, thought provoking, helpful, safe, and easy to use. LVAGovLive is devoted to the topic of governance for both boards of directors and advisory groups. Current and prospective members of these groups are welcome. Paid and volunteer staff with concerns, ideas, or comments regarding this topic are also invited to participate. There's no such thing as a dumb question or posting. Feel free to share your views or to ask for guidance about governance in general or about your specific literacy organization. If you have questions about day-to-day operations, we encourage you to post your thoughts on LVA-Connect, another listserv supported by Literacy Volunteers of America. Please be aware that LVAGovLive is a public communication site. Never provide your telephone numbers or home address to anyone online. Although it cannot make an absolute guarantee of system security and prevention of spam, LVA takes reasonable steps to avoid these. LVA also moderates this listserv to minimize the risk. However, by participating in this site, you acknowledge nothing is absolute, and do not hold LVA liable.
Please remember that what you read is the opinions and stories of members. You may, from time to time, find yourself in disagreement with someone. Keep in mind that it's more polite and more persuasive to take issue with that person's comments, rather than offering a personal attack. This isn't meant to discourage spontaneity, but to remind you that words cant be taken back. We wont tolerate hateful communications or those that are obscene, illegal (including viruses), harmful, insulting, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or libelous. Remember that we are a diverse community of individuals. Please don't use all capital letters in your postings. It's considered "shouting" online, makes other members uncomfortable, and is difficult to read. Please always sign your name to your postings. Please don't post anything you don't have the right to publish or violate any copyright or other proprietary rights in your posts. That includes excerpting published articles without the author's permission. We'll delete posts that contain any such violations. Privacy We encourage you to provide complete and candid information about any situation affecting governance in your organization. One of our goals is to solve problems as a community. However, if you are very uncomfortable about offering detailed information about an issue in your organization, the moderator will be happy to post it for you. When sending your e-mail to LVAGovLive, please put Post for Me in the subject line of the e-mail and in the first line of your message. To Subscribe to LVAGovLive:
Our Rights LVA reserves the right to refuse participation to anyone and to delete any post and/or terminate membership, with or without notice, at any time and for any reason, including our judgment that you've violated basic guidelines.
