Student Leadership Training Pins

Nashville '99: Hitting the high notes of literacy

Pin Ceremony
Student Breakfast - Thursday, November 11, 1999, 7:15 am

Each year the National Student Advisory Board (NSAB) hosts a student event at the conference. Each year at this event the Board hands out pins to students who have attended conference workshops. This year the pins will be given to all students at the Student Recognition Breakfast, Thursday, November 11th. The breakfast is planned by NSAB and hosted by Wally Amos. BE THERE!!

Why do we give out these pins?

These pins are meant to show that the student has been to training at the LVA conference. Each year a link is added to the pin. This shows each student's leadership training. Students participating in all of this training are strongly encouraged to use what theyve learned to help others.

When students are asked why they want student involvement and leadership training, the most common response is We want to give something back, -- to help the program that has helped them and to help other students succeed as they are succeeding.

Some student roles can be:

  • speaking in public to support the program
  • leading and helping with activities to help other students
  • volunteering for special events or general office duties
  • advising the program from the student's viewpoint

To be effective in these roles, students need high-quality training. LVAs national conference provides many experts about student issues. Students meet other students and program staff. Everyone learns from each other.
