With the release of The Age of Possibility, Carrie Newcomer demonstrates that she is one of the definitive voices of the heartland. On The Age of Possibility tour, Carrie will be donating 10% of all concert album sales to Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc. (Her My True Name tour donated similar amounts to various health and hunger organizations). In addition, her website, http://www.carrienewcomer.com, features a "Recommended Books and CDs" page linked to Amazon.com, which pays between 5 and 15% of each sale to Carrie. In turn, Carrie will donate these proceeds to Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc. Carrie has always been associated with many humanitarian causes.
I have seen great things come from even small acts of love and kindness. I know that makes me unfashionably optimistic. I've focused on health, education and hunger issues, though I've been involved with environmental and peace issues as well. I've gotten the chance to meet and work with incredible people through many locally based hunger relief organizations and women's shelters, The Safe Place Organization, Planned Parenthood, and now Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc. The connecting link for me is that these are all organizations that do great good one person at a time. They provide safe and affordable health care, serve the basic needs, and give hope for the future through education and positive action for those most vulnerable in our communities. I feel richer having gotten to know such fine and dedicated people.
