How Can I Help?

Help a Child Learn to Read

The President's America Reads Challenge is clear: "Every child in America shall be able to read independently by the end of the third grade."

The President issued the challenge. Literacy Volunteers of America (LVA) provides the answer: Help a Child Learn to Read. This book used with LVAs Maintaining the Balance: A Guide to 50-50 Management provides college work-study program administrators, elementary school principals, and others with all the elements they need to create a complete, affordable tutoring program for children. Using the book as a guide, any motivated adult can make a difference in the life of a child who needs help improving his or her reading skills.

Help a Child Learn to Read, developed through a grant from the Center for Equity and Excellence in Education at the George Washington University, enables organizations to meet the America Reads Challenge and help children become better readers.
