How Can I Help?

Learning Disabilities

Studies indicate that an estimated 50 to 80 percent of adults who seek assistance from volunteer literacy programs might have undiagnosed learning disabilities. LVA seeks opportunities to develop and disseminate cutting-edge resources to the LVA network, recognizing that local programs need the right tools and techniques to serve the special needs of this population.

LVA has received a grant from the federally funded National Institute for Literacy to develop a training and dissemination strategy for its guidebooks, which address methods to better serve adults with learning disabilities. LVA's goal is to stimulate change in the volunteer literacy sector so that all services reflect a basic understanding of how to teach adults with learning disabilities.
