Internships

ProLiteracy internship opportunities offer hands-on experience in collaborating with nongovernmental leaders to conduct trainings in rural communities, produce learning materials, and evaluate programs. Qualified interns work at select sites in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.

Interns receive extensive training in project methodology and local program procedures before being assigned to a site. On-site work focuses on integrating participatory teaching models into existing curricula, which focus on health, economic self-reliance, environmental sustainability, education, peace, and/or human rights/status of women. Placements are for a period of two to six weeks.

Domestic volunteer interns provide support in the areas of fund-raising, database management, corporate communications, program development, and administrative assistance at ProLiteracy’s headquarter offices in Syracuse, New York. Interns become familiar with literacy and community development programs and gain experience in various aspects of nonprofit operations.

Candidates from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. Strong oral and written communication skills are desired. Interested applicants should send a current resume or CV with a cover letter that states why they would like to participate in an internship, what they hope to gain from the experience, and the programmatic and geographical area(s) of interest. Please also include contact information for two references. Please send application materials to International Programs, ProLiteracy Worldwide, 1320 Jamesville Ave., Syracuse, NY 13210.
