Judge Reggie Walton to Speak at ProLiteracy Conference
udge Reggie Walton, currently presiding over the high profile trial of former vice presidential aide Lewis Libby, will welcome conferees at the Opening Session of ProLiteracy’s conference in November, 2007.
Judge Walton, a U.S. District Court judge in Washington D.C. for six years, grew up in a Pennsylvania steel mill town. Fighting with other young people earned him three trips to juvenile court, and his hopes for a professional football career never materialized. Despite poor reading skills, Walton completed college and law school. He now spends his spare time visiting YMCAs and juvenile lock-ups, looking to help young black men become successful.
Judge Walton is expected to discuss his troubled youth and struggle with reading when he delivers the keynote address at the opening session of ProLiteracy’s annual conference. Opening is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 7 at the Hilton Mark Center in Alexandria, VA. The conference continues through Saturday, November 10th.
