ProLiteracy America and COABE Launch New Journal
March 19, 2006
Syracuse, N.Y.
ProLiteracy America and the Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE) will launch the first issue of the Adult Basic Education and Literacy Journal on March 26th at the COABE national conference in Philadelphia.
The new publication is the only professional journal that focuses on adult basic education and literacy and brings together under one cover double-blind peer-reviewed research articles as well as a variety of articles and columns that address the daily needs of practitioners. The journal builds on the 30-year tradition established by COABE in the former Adult Basic Education journal, which was devoted exclusively to dissemination of research articles.
Topics in the first issue include the value of collaborative learning in one-to-one tutoring, small groups, and large classes; the effect of technology on informal learning; the need for cooperation between practitioners in the health and education fields; teaching math in multi-level classrooms; and Web sites that are useful to teachers and tutors.
The journal is published three times per year. Subscriptions cost $65/year for an individual ($35/year if the person is a member of ProLiteracy America or COABE). For more information, contact: info@proliteracy.org.
