ProLiteracy Worldwide Receives UPS Contribution
July 26,2007
Syracuse, NY
Second installment of a two-year grant awarded to ProLiteracy Worldwide
ProLiteracy Worldwide has received a check of $151,780 from The UPS Foundation as part a two-year grant in support of the Volunteers in ABE Initiative. This project was designed to help ABE (adult-based education) programs develop a comprehensive plan involving volunteer services to English as a second language learners.
ProLiteracy is working with selected ABE programs to establish a model and to create the planning, training, and support needed to offer cost-effective ways to expand and improve services to lower-level ESL learners. Once the training and resources are proven successful, they will be available to ABE programs across the country. Project manager David Whitaker will be conducting a pre-conference session, Using Volunteers in the ESL Classroom, November 7 at ProLiteracy Worldwide’s annual conference this year. For more information, go to: ProLiteracy’s conference page.
Since 1991, The UPS Foundation has supported ProLiteracy Worldwide with over $1.2 million for various initiatives including the Family Learning Project, the Increasing the Intensity of Instruction program, and support of the annual conference.
