ProLiteracy Worldwide Annual Conference

Hotel & Transportation

October 1-4, 2008

Little Rock, Arkansas

Home of the Clinton Presidential Center
and the Central High School National Historic Site

September 4, 1957: Nine African American students are prevented from entering Little Rock's Central High School. Dubbed "The Little Rock Nine" these students faced angry crowds ten days later as they were escorted by National Guardsmen into the school's halls for the first time. Little Rock made the history books as the first site to test the U.S. Supreme Court's Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka decision, which officially ended public-school segregation. The event was broadcast around the world.

November 18, 2004: Little Rock makes headlines again with the dedication of the Clinton Presidential Center. The Clinton Library archives are the largest of the presidential libraries, including over 80 million documents, 80,000 artifacts, 1.8-million photos, and 21 million e-mail messages (Wikipedia). The Clinton School of Public Service is also located at the site.

Conference Location

The ProLiteracy Worldwide conference will be held at the Peabody Little Rock, located on the bank of the Arkansas River in Little Rock's River Market District. It's just minutes away from the Clinton Presidential Center and 15 minutes from the Little Rock International Airport. The hotel is connected to the Statehouse Convention Center. The room rate at the Peabody is $129.00. The online group code is 446841.

Every day at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m, the world-famous Peabody Ducks march to the sounds of John Philip Souza's King Cotton March, down the red carpet to the lobby fountain where they play throughout the day until the march is reversed and the ducks return to their palace. The ducks are led by their Duck Master, clad in scarlet and gold and carrying a brass head duck cane.

The Peabody Athletic Club is available for guests, fully equipped with 14 Cybex stations, eight cardio machines, free weights, and a sauna.
