About Tucson
Located in the southern part
of Arizona between Phoenix and the Mexican border, the city of Tucson is home to
an estimated 800,000 people. Tucson has been called the "number one
city for spas and resorts," and the site of ProLiteracy's 2005 conference
pays testament to that! The all-new JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort &
Spa is one of 59 stand-alone spas in and around Tucson, which offer all manner
of treatment and pampering.
The city also boasts more sunshine than almost
any other city in the U.S., about 350 days each year. The average
temperature at conference time is a high of 84 degrees and a low of 57, with a
comfortable humidity level of just 25 percent. Tucson's mild climate is
legendary.
From its founding in 1775, Tucson has gone from
Native American farming community, to Spanish outpost, to dusty frontier town,
to bustling, territorial days' railroad hub, to the mature Southwestern
metropolis it is today. While in the area, you might want to visit the
Arizona State Museum, take a downtown stroll through a restored 19th century
neighborhood, or check out Tucson's significant contributions to aviation at the
Pima Air & Space Museum.
Visit the Metropolitan
Tucson Visitors and Convention Bureau or the
City of Tucson for more information.
